Should and Oughts

My days are full of should and oughts

They seem to burden life a lot.

I should do this, I ought do that!

They’re there to haunt me where e’er I’m at.

I should stand straight so I’ll grow tall.

Stretch ‘tho I might, five-two, is all

I ought not frown, my face will set

And ‘tho I smile, more wrinkled I get.

There should be order! Oh, what a dream.

When chaos usually reigns supreme.

I ought to lose some extra pounds

For each that’s lost, two more are found.

You can surely guess from the lines you’ve heard

Procrastination! That’s me in a word.

We all have talents in which to shine.

I think I have finally discovered mine.
